Located in the heart of the Finger Lakes Wine Country, Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard stands on the western shores of Seneca Lake. Their winemaking processes pay homage to the ancient winemaking tradition and winemaking history of Hermann J. Wiemer’s German ancestry while incorporating the best of modern practices. 

Wines are crafted in very small lots to focus on subtle differences between site blocks within vineyards and even clones within varieties. They utilize up to 25 different fermentation tanks within the winery to isolate vineyard sections and pickings dates to best showcase the varietal’s characteristics. This small lot production allows for more control of the final product.

Wiemer’s signature long fermentation on indigenous yeast is made possible by the ecologically balanced viticultural methods in their vineyards. They seek lower and balanced yields per vine, ensuring healthy vines that reflect the character of the soils in which they are deeply rooted.

The finest qualities of the estate are expressed in Wiemer's Reserve Dry Riesling, an exclusive wine spotlighting unique characteristics from all three of their vineyard sites. Small selections of grapes are meticulously chosen from specifically identified lots, which are fermented separately and then blended to create the exquisite balance of juiciness, freshness, and minerality displayed in this specialty bottling. A brilliant, tangy nose heralds a burst of stone fruit and citrus zest on the palate. Fruit and minerality play into a lingering finish that continues to make the mouth water long after the wine is gone.

Late Harvest Riesling 2015

This enticing Riesling is crafted in the traditional German Spätlese style, with moderate natural sweetness counterpoised by a bright, invigorating liveliness. In a yearly gamble against the weather, grapes for Spätlese wines are left to hang for a longer time on the vines, allowing them to develop riper flavor profiles. The later picking also increases must weight resulting in a more full-bodied wine. Spätlese wines have a greater intensity and strength than Kabinett-style wines, though are still the lightest of the late harvest wines. The outcome is a wine with an elegant yet luscious nose, followed by a generous palate of crisp ripe fruit and floral notes, lingering into a long, naturally sweet finish. This exceptional late harvest wine pairs well with cheese and fruit, with lighter roasted or barbequed meats, or serves as a refreshing after-dinner wine.

Noble Select Riesling Josef Vineyard

2013 featured extended hang times across each of our varietals. A cool growing season gave way to a long, warm autumn where sugars climbed gradually and acidities held steady even into our botrytispicks. The Noble Select dessert wines from this vintage offer zestier, citrus blossom aromas with a mouth-coating concentration reminiscent of maple sap.

This wine will cellar into the 2050s and beyond.

Cabernet Franc 
Magdalena Vineyard 2016

The Cabernet Franc Magdalena Vineyard is selected from a two-and-a-half acre plot at the warm, northern end of Wiemer's Magdalena site. Extended skin contact, whole-cluster pressing, and time in younger Hungarian oak barrels impart a structure and depth to this full-bodied red. Dense tannins and prominent tobacco notes hint at the ageabilty of this Cabernet Franc though it will drink energetically while young.
